Billy Ray Cyrus

Tonight we waited in line for several hours hoping to have our photo taken with Billy Ray Cyrus (a.k.a "Hannah Montana's Dad"), who was at the Walmart on Rt 248 signing his new CD. Actually our friends Barbara and Allicyn Bajkowski headed out with Casey in tow around 4pm to brave the heat and crowds. By the time Colleen and I joined them (around 7pm) our section of the line was practially indoors in the air conditioning. Thanks, Barbara for taking the first shift!

Earlier in the day staffers had passed out red tickets to people waiting, telling everyone that those who did not receive a ticket were not guaranteed to meet him. We were about ten people behind the last folks to receive the tickets, so we were hopeful.

To his credit, Billy Ray actually stayed an hour past his planned 8pm quitting time to finish signing for those who had tickets. We remained in line, in denial, because around 8:10 we started being told by staff members that we would not be able to get our CDs signed. But the girls were having fun, as were Barbara and I. Colleen, not so much. Jerry, Allicyn's Dad was posted out back near Cyrus' escape route, getting to know his limo driver. He later told us that just before BRC came out the back door, the driver opened the trunk and got out his hat to place in the back seat...nearly knocking out BRC's guitar! As Billy Ray exited the back door of the Walmart, Jerry handed him his business card and shook his hand. What a great story!

After being briefly sidetracked to race westbound on 22 for several miles thinking we were in hot pursuit of Billy Ray's vehicle, we retired to a well-deserved late meal at the Williams Family Diner.

What a fun way to spend a Wednesday night...meeting Billy Ray, or not in our case, actually became secondary to the fun we all had hanging around with a two thousand other crazy folks at the Walmart on a hot summer night!
